AIT Engineer - Integration & Production F/M
About Exotrail 🚀
Born from a strong ambition to reach for the stars, Exotrail is a fast-growing scale-up founded in 2017. Its mission: to develop and commercialize propulsion systems for small satellites on a global scale.
We design products focused on impact, fast delivery, and continuous improvement. Inspired by the digital world, we are firmly customer-oriented and driven by an entrepreneurial spirit.
We manage risks to push boundaries and achieve results that would not be possible within a traditional space model.
We deploy every necessary resource to support the development of our products, whether in propulsion or in-orbit services. Strengthened by an innovative mindset inherited from our early days, we are preparing to grow into an ambitious industrial company.
Job Description 👨💻
We are looking for an AIT Engineer - Integration & Production at our Massy site.
You will join the AIT department of our In-Orbit Services Business Unit. This role covers the full physical integration cycle of spacevan™ satellites: writing and qualifying integration procedures, mechanical and electrical integration in ISO 8 cleanroom, hardware configuration management, and non-conformance handling. You will interface directly with AIT teams (AIT Manager, Test Manager, Technicians), Engineering (System, Avionics, Mechanical-Thermal, IV&V - Independent Verification and Validation), Mission and Quality (PA/QA), as well as during off-site campaigns (test centres, launch sites).
Beyond technical skills, we are looking for someone rigorous, methodical, autonomous on the floor, capable of working on flight hardware with a constant focus on traceability and quality.
Your main tasks and responsibilities will be:
📌 Prepare and qualify AIT activities : Build AIT sequences (gates, hold points, quality controls, readiness milestones), write and qualify integration procedures (work packages, travellers) and standardise documentation across missions of the same spacevan variant to guarantee repeatability and reduce preparation time. Prepare AIT review packages (IRR, TRR, IRB/TRB, FRR) - readiness status, procedure traceability, NCR status, validated configuration.
📌 Supervise and perform physical integration of floor operations : Supervise or perform mechanical integration (structures, equipment, MLI, SSM, heaters, bonding, torquing) and electrical integration (harness routing, electrical and RF connections and disconnections) of satellites in cleanroom. Perform in-house PCB assembly operations according to defined assembly work packages, in compliance with applicable quality standards. Apply and enforce ISO 8 cleanroom rules, ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and chemical/fluidic safety procedures. Participate in off-site campaigns (environmental testing, launch site) depending on seniority.
📌 Ensure configuration management and traceability : Ensure as-built traceability of hardware and software configurations (logbooks, travellers with photos, as-run records) and maintain Odoo tickets per model (EM, QM, FM). Manage PLM (3DExperience or equivalent) interfaces and participate in configuration reviews (IRB/TRB): status, deviation traceability, NCR (Non-Conformance Reports) status.
📌 Detect, handle and track non-conformances : Detect, report and document deviations via the NCR process (Odoo) and lead first-level investigations (triage, reproducibility analysis, pre-diagnosis, structured escalation). Drive resolution with Quality (PA/QA) and Engineering, actively contributes to resolution follow-up and drive deployment of validated workarounds and fixes. Apply QRQC (Quick Response Quality Control) Level 1 governance.
📌 Contribute to functional testing and continuous improvement : Support the test team during functional verification phases (EGSE bench connection, test sequence execution per procedures, TM/TC parameter monitoring). Contribute to improvement of integration procedures and work packages from field lessons learned, report standardization needs to the Industrialization & Methods team, and mentor AIT Technicians on the floor. Monitor and contribute to production KPIs: integration cycle time, First Pass Yield, NCR rate, MGSE availability.
Preferred Experience 💁♀️
📌 Education: engineering degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, electronics, industrial engineering or equivalent technical field.
📌 Experience: 5+ years in AIT satellite definition and integration in cleanroom. Direct experience on flight hardware (FM) is mandatory.
📌 Tools proficiency:
Integration and tooling: torque tightening tools, mechanical alignment and lifting equipment, MGSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment), electrical measurement and dimensional inspection tools.
• CAD: SolidWorks, Inventor, Catia or equivalent.
• Electrical design: Altium, KiCAD or equivalent.
• Configuration and traceability: PLM (3DExperience or equivalent), DOORS, GitLab/Jira, Odoo.
📌 Knowledge:
• Satellite system architecture (structure, thermal, avionics, power, propulsion, communications) and AIT integration processes and procedures.
• Reading complex mechanical and electrical drawings.
• AIT documentation rules: generating manufacturing records, creating check-lists, NCR documentation, as-built, logbooks; operation traceability management.
• Installation constraints on environmental test means: vibration table, TVAC (Thermal Vacuum) chamber, anechoic chamber, acoustic test trolley.
• Hardware constraints of MGSE and EGSE; ESD knowledge and associated protective equipment.
• Applicable standards: ECSS (E-ST-10, Q-ST-70, Q-ST-20) and NASA NPR. ISO 8 cleanroom procedures, ESD, chemical and fluidic safety.
• B2V/BE electrical clearance, crane operator clearance (CACES R484) and aerial work platform clearance (CACES R486) appreciated.
📌 Nice to have: background in functional testing (EGSE connection, test sequence execution, TM/TC monitoring) or embedded electronics (wiring, continuity, space connector identification) significantly broadens your scope with us - highly valued at this stage of our development.
📌 Soft skills: execution rigour and zero-defect culture on flight hardware; method and attention to detail in documentation; field autonomy with good collaboration skills;
📌 Fluent in French and English (clear technical communication).
