AIT Technician F/M
About Exotrail 🚀
Born from a strong ambition to reach for the stars, Exotrail is a fast-growing scale-up founded in 2017. Its mission: to develop and commercialize propulsion systems for small satellites on a global scale.
We design products focused on impact, fast delivery, and continuous improvement. Inspired by the digital world, we are firmly customer-oriented and driven by an entrepreneurial spirit.
We manage risks to push boundaries and achieve results that would not be possible within a traditional space model.
We deploy every necessary resource to support the development of our products, whether in propulsion or in-orbit services. Strengthened by an innovative mindset inherited from our early days, we are preparing to grow into an ambitious industrial company.
Job Description 👨💻
We are looking for a Senior AIT Technician at our Massy site.
You will join the AIT department of our In-Orbit Services Business Unit. As a senior technician, you are the technical reference operator of the production line: you perform physical integration operations on spacevan™ satellites in an ISO 8 cleanroom, apply and transmit standards, and ensure full traceability of your work. You will interface directly with AIT teams (AIT Manager, AIT Engineers, Test Manager), Engineering (System, Avionics, Mechanical-Thermal, IV&V - Independent Verification and Validation) and Quality (PA/QA).
Beyond technical skills, we are looking for someone rigorous, autonomous and reliable, capable of working on flight hardware with a constant focus on execution quality and traceability.
Your main tasks and responsibilities will be:
📌 Perform mechanical and electrical integration operations: Carry out integration operations in cleanroom (structural assembly, equipment installation and fastening, harness routing and connection, electrical and RF connections, MLI, SSM, heaters installation, bonding, torquing). Perform in-house PCB assembly operations according to defined assembly work packages. Rigorously apply ISO 8 cleanroom rules, ESD (Electrostatic Discharge), chemical and fluidic safety procedures.
📌 Prepare and execute procedures with full rigour: Prepare operations from defined procedures and work packages. Respect quality hold points, ensure full traceability of operations in as-built manufacturing records (photos, as-run records, logbooks), and systematically report any deviation or non-conformance observed to the AIT Engineer.
📌 Perform quality controls and inspections: Carry out compliance checks and visual inspections at each critical step (incoming, hold points, final configuration). Fill in associated check-lists and records with full rigour. Document NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and actively contribute to first-level investigations.
📌 Ensure traceability and documentation: Maintain full traceability of every operation in ERP (Odoo) and manufacturing records: hardware configuration, software version, datasets, logs. Contribute to field lessons learned reporting to the AIT Engineer and the Industrialisation & Methods team.
📌 Support campaigns and contribute to team upskilling: Support the AIT Engineer during functional test and verification phases (EGSE bench connection, test sequence execution per procedures, TM/TC parameter monitoring). Participate in off-site campaigns depending on seniority. Ensure cleanliness, compliance and safety of work areas (5S). Contribute to upskilling future junior technicians.
Preferred Experience 💁♀️
📌 Education: technical qualification in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics or equivalent field.
📌 Experience: 7+ years of AIT experience on satellites or space subsystems in cleanroom. Direct experience on flight hardware (FM) is mandatory. Confirmed autonomy on physical integration operations.
📌 Tools proficiency:
Integration and tooling: torque wrench, torque tightening and mechanical alignment tools, MGSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment), electrical measurement and dimensional inspection tools
AIT documentation: manufacturing records, check-lists, NCR, as-built, logbooks; practice of ERP/Odoo for operation traceability.
📌 Knowledge:
Satellite system architecture (structure, thermal, avionics, power, propulsion, communications) and AIT integration processes and procedures.
Reading complex mechanical and electrical drawings.
AIT documentation rules: generating manufacturing records, check-lists, NCR, as-built, logbooks.
Installation constraints on environmental test means: vibration table, TVAC (Thermal Vacuum) chamber, anechoic chamber, acoustic test trolley.
Hardware constraints of MGSE and EGSE; ESD knowledge and associated protective equipment.
Applicable standards: ECSS (E-ST-10, Q-ST-70, Q-ST-20) and NASA NPR. ISO 8 cleanroom procedures, ESD, chemical and fluidic safety.
B1V/BE electrical clearance, crane operator clearance (CACES R484) and aerial work platform clearance (CACES R486) appreciated.
📌 Nice to have: background in functional testing (EGSE connection, test sequence execution, TM/TC monitoring), embedded electronics (wiring, continuity, space connector identification) or AIT quality control (internal AIT QC clearance) significantly broadens your scope with us - a discriminating criterion at this stage of our development.
📌Soft skills: execution rigour and zero-defect culture on flight hardware; method and attention to detail in documentation; field autonomy with good collaboration skills; ability to pass on best practices to junior technicians.
📌Fluent in French and English (clear technical communication).
About our recruitment process 🤝
We are committed to recruiting the right people for the right job regardless of your private backround.
We meet at least three times in order to give you a better idea of what it's like to work at Exotrail:
1. Video call with our Talent Acquisition Team: you will discover your work environment and learn more about our culture.
2. Technical interview with your future manager: you will learn more about the position and the required qualifications.
3. Technical assessment (practical case or hands-on situation), if required: you will demonstrate your skills on a concrete case related to the role, in front of a technical committee before the final interview.
4. On-site interview with other team members and VP IOS: you can make sure that you share the same vision and values of the company.
We make hiring decisions based on job-related criteria and do not tolerate discrimination in recruitment processes.
